FOSC Can Help You Become a Referee!

Referees are paid to officate games. Here is some important info to know before getting started.

  • You must be 13 years old to be a referee.
  • There are two parts to becoming a referee: online module and field session. The online course must be completed first.
  • Referees are responsible for purchasing ref gear: shirt, shorts, socks, flags, stopwatch, etc.
  • Your referee license is good for two years if you complete your two courses after July 1, 2024.
  • If you are 18 years or older, you will need to complete a background check.
  • You get paid for each game you ref.
  • It takes money to make money. You will pay for your tranining courses, background check and gear. (Read below for details on how FOSC will reimburse you for your online course!)

Becoming a ref can seem confusing because of all the steps. We're here to help.

  1. You must be 13 years or older
  2. You must register for the online referee course. This course takes about 4-5 hours but you don't have to finish in one sitting.  There are several modules so starting and stopping is easy.  This all happens at  https://www.cnra.net/new-referee/
  3. You must complete the test at the  end of the course. The test is designed to help you successfully pass. You can miss some questions.
  4. If you are 18 years or older, you will need to complete the Safesport online course and background check.
  5. You will need to attend an in person field training session.  You have to complete the online course first.
  6. Last step is to purchase your gear!

There is an in person field training session in Elk Grove on Oct 6, 2024 @ 9:30am

Hal Bartholomew Sports Park

10150 Franklin High Road

Elk Grove, CA 95624

This is your opportunity to get licensed and ready to ref.

You will get all the info you need at this link: https://www.cnra.net/new-referee/

Did you know FOSC will reimburse your referee course fees AFTER you referee 5 FOSC games? Contact Enrique for more details.
